Missing mysqld in RHEL

We’re now running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3.0 at work. I’m in the process of setting up Bugzilla, which needs MySQL. I went to access MySQL (which I know was installed during the initial OS install) and lo and behold – no mysqld. All of the client apps are there, but no server. Damn…

Anyways, after poking around the Web for a bit, I found out that the server is not installed by default (stupid). AND, to top it off, the mysql-server package is not part of the base OS – instead it’s available via the Extras channel on RedHat Network.

So, to get it installed, I had to log into RHN, add the “Extras” channel to my subscripion list, and the use up2date to install by typing up2date mysql-server.

Now it’s there.

Dumb.

Dumb.

Dumb.
