Some Music Suggestions

For those of you looking for some great music by bands you’ve (most likely) never heard of before, check out:

  • Djam Karet – think Pink Floyd mixed with Tangerine Dream and King Crimson.
  • Porcupine Tree – these guys have been my favorite band for a few years now.
  • Ozric Tentacles – great psyche/prog jam rock. Actually, they sound similar to Djam Karet now that I think about it…
  • Spock’s Beard – excellent musicians, excellent vocalists, excellent song writers. They’ve taken pop-oriented prog to new levels.

Tommy turns 3

My son Tommy turned 3 today. Wow, three years old. Time really flies. I asked him how old he was, and he replied, “Hmmmm…3…months!”.

I think he knows exactly how old he is and he’s just pulling Daddy’s leg. :-)

Blowing a wad of cash

We’ve been having some masonry work done in our front yard over the past two weeks. Our front lawn is very steep, and there wasn’t much to it – just grass and a pathetic attempt at growing a magnolia. So, seeing how the economy is in a downward spiral and I’m working for a start-up company that has yet to make any money, we decided to blow a wad of cash on landscaping.

The work was done by Stearns Stone Works, and they did an amazing job. The masons were a great group of guys, who, it turns out, are all also actors. Derek Stearns, the owner of the company, is an accomplished actor and acting teacher.

If anyone is looking for a masonry company and/or acting company, they come highly recommended!

Tourist of Death

Speaking of doctored photos, I’m sure by now just about everyone that has access to the Internet has seen the picture of the guy on the WTC observation deck with the plane coming right at him.

It’s obviously a fake – a winter coat in September in NY? I don’t think so…

Over the past few weeks, the craze of doctoring this photo in new and exciting ways has started on the Internet. My favorite:

It was only a matter of time until a web site popped up to host all of these pics. Check out Tourist of Death.

Bert is Evil!

Now this is funny. Over the past week, pictures of anti-U.S. protesters in Bangladesh have been seen online that feature a poster with a collage of Bin Laden images. If you look carefully, an image of Bert from Sesame Street can be seen to the right of the central Bin Laden image.

Originally many people thought the pictures (from Reuters) were doctored, but it turns out that the posters really do have Bert’s image.

Why is he there?!?

Well, I’m sure many of you are familiar with the classic Bert is Evil page (archived as a PDF here), which features the sordid life of the cranky Muppet. One of the site’s mirrors features a doctored picture of Bin Laden with Bert.

A print shop in Bangladesh needed pictures of Bin Laden for a poster they were creating for a protest, and simply grabbed various photos from the Internet. Since they had no idea of who the weird looking yellow puppet was, they used the doctored photo and Bert remained in the image.

Little did the protesters know how stupid they looked… :-)

A guy can change his mind, right?

So much for going to work for Paytronix. I had to make a very difficult decision last week: do I leave BD-X (which is still moving along!) to work for Paytronix, or do I continue to work on what I now consider my “baby” and have the opportunity to work from home and therefore spend much more time with my family? Well, the final decision was to stay with BD-X and work from home. Besides, how can I not work with Brent and Bill any more? They’re my Unreal Tournament team mates! (hi, guys :-)

If you’re looking for a great opportunity to work for a startup with some very talented individuals (plus they’re FUNDED!), drop me a note and I’ll introduce you.

A good Bush quote

“What’s the use of sending a $2 million missile into a $10 tent to hit a camel in the butt?”
